Fast Import is a setting that impacts the user experience of the upload process. Here’s what you need to know:
-
Fast Import Enabled:
- When you enable Fast Import, Trados Studio will quickly confirm that the physical WorldServer Return package has been uploaded to the server. The actual process of importing the translation will not be displayed. Hence, the Create Return Package wizard can be closed quickly.
- The benefit: Users can continue working in Trados Studio without waiting for the upload to complete. The import happens in the background, ensuring minimal disruption to their workflow.
- The disadvantage: If there is an error when importing the Return package into WorldServer, users will not see it in the wizard. However, by default, users are notified by email if a background job fails (the upload of a Return package to WorldServer is a background job). If such a notification is sent, users can take action and fix the error that causes the import to fail, just as if they would do if they did not use the Fast Import option and would be able to see the error while monitoring the import process in Trados Studio.
-
Fast Import Disabled:
- If you leave Fast Import disabled, Trados Studio will show more details about the upload and import process. The WorldServer Return package will still be successfully uploaded, but it will take longer because Studio will show you each step of the upload, the import and a final confirmation, as you can see in the screenshots below. If the upload/import fails, you will be able to see an error as well, which can be very useful. With Fast Import disabled, users will need to wait longer for the upload and the import to finish before resuming their work in Trados Studio, but they will see more details about the process.
In summary, enabling Fast Import streamlines the upload experience because it won't show the details of the import process. Therefore, if you enable this option, make sure to watch out for background email notifications in case your upload/import fails and you need to take action. The email notification will have the title: Your WorldServer background job failed to complete. It will contain a reference to a Return package with - partially - the same name as the one you have uploaded and a Log file as an attachment. The Log file will contain the error message. Here is an example of the email:
Note: the settings related to email notifications are set in your Personal Preferences page (under Tools > Personal Preferences) in your WorldServer account. Below are the default settings. As you can see, email notifications related to successful background jobs are disabled. You can enable them on this page and click Save if you would like to be notified also when your Return packages have been imported successfully.
